Grounded: Commitment To The Land

Long before it was a winery, this land was originally part of the Southern Pomo territory. Reuben Harper was the first documented owner in 1850, and it has been cared for by every generation since. That sense of stewardship still shapes how we operate today.

Both of our estate vineyards are farmed using regenerative organic principles, with a focus on maintaining soil health and nurturing the entire farm ecosystem. Cover crops and compost build living soils and resilient vines. Synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides have no place here. That same care extends beyond the vineyard. We are currently in the process of installing a microgrid at the Harper’s Rest estate: 360 solar panels on the winery roof generating 360,000 watts at peak sun, paired with battery storage and a backup generator. It's a local energy network built to produce, store, and manage our own electricity, capable of running independently during a blackout or working in tandem with the grid. Once complete, we will generate more power than we consume, putting the estate at net zero. The EV chargers on the property extends that same thinking to our guests.

Being grounded means thinking generationally. The decisions we make on this property are made with the next hundred years in mind, not just the next vintage.

Uncompromising: Quality Without Shortcuts

Our view is that the highest quality of any wine is built not entirely on what you do, but what you don’t do. We never add commercial yeasts, enzymes, tannins, acids, concentrates, or fermentation aids, only what the grapes provide on their own. Every choice, from hand-sorting each cluster to aging on the lees without racking, is made in service of what the vineyard is trying to tell us, not what's easiest.

Uncompromising also means patience: we wait for the fruit to ripen on its own schedule and never rush what the vine does best. The result? Wines that taste unmistakably of their place.

Welcoming: There's Always Room At Our Table

Harper's Rest was built around the idea that wine is meant to bring people together. Walk-ins are always welcome, no appointment necessary. Our hospitality team's top priority is making sure every visitor feels at home, whether they are just passing by or a longtime club member. Our tasting room is designed with accessibility in mind, so that visiting the estate, walking the vineyard, and tasting where these wines are born is possible for all our guests. Plus, dogs are welcome!

We believe hospitality is an extension of the same care we put into farming: attentive, unhurried, and genuine. Whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth, we want you to leave feeling like part of the family. Come check it out for yourself.
